Colin and Julie

Julie: We have been married 15 years and have three children. Colin is a Manager and I am a Legal Executive. We also give a lot of time to community service organisations.

Colin: Back in February this year we fell apart as a family unit and allowed outsiders in.

Julie: I felt very let down and betrayed and could not to come to grips with what had happened. There was no trust in our relationship any more, I was hurting and the kids were hurting and there seemed know answer to this situation. We had just purchased a new house the month before and the financial burden, we needed both of us to cover the cost of the house but there was no us. We stayed in this situation surviving for another 7 months but neither of us seemed to be happy. I was ready to call it quits.

Colin: I wasn't happy with the situation also, I realised that I had given too much of my time for community events and didn't allow time for my wife. I tried every thing that I could to make life better for Julie and the kids. . . I went out of my way to ease the duties of home life like cooking dinner, washing, looking after the kids etc but nothing seemed to make my wife happy. She didn't seem to understand that I loved her and wanted her. I didn't know where to go from here, had been to counselling but it didn't work. Then one night I had a phone call from Lou inviting us as a couple to a course for marriages. I was prepared to give anything a go.

Julie: I felt it wouldn't make much difference as we were doomed and I was going to leave, but I would give it a shot anyway.
We came to our first meeting and there were other couples, we both felt a bit strange about others knowing our personal affairs but realised they were in similar situations. I found the group sessions took the emphasis off us and that a problem shared is a problem halved. The support was excellent.

Colin: This course has taken us back to the basics, it has defined our roles as husband and wife and taught us step by step how to rebuild our relationship and work as one. It has taught us how to seek guidance and help with day to day living. You are not out there alone. Thanks to Marriage Ministries International, life is so much better; we now have a life and a future to look forward to.
