BENEFITS OF SERVING AS ONE FLESH LEADERS

Joyce & I will be sharing from the perspective of being the LIT working together with our leaders Hock Bee & Judy. The experience has certainly reinforced the merit of the MFL course and the benefits of being involved in the MFL one-flesh ministry. The two lessons that impacted us the most are a) praying together and b) the one-flesh ministry.

There is a notion that attending a marriage course always seems to point to a weak or failing marriage. It seems to indicate the inability of the individuals concerned to handle their marriage and so needed external help. This notion has kept us from signing up for courses like MFL.

So is our notion accurate on reflection?

Looking back and having attended the Married for Life, this statement is both right and wrong at the same time. It is correct because no marriage is perfect and any help, external or otherwise that is available in improving is most desirable.

It is inaccurate because one does not need to wait till the marriage is about to fall apart before signing up for it. As long as one is open and desirable for a good understanding of what to expect in a marriage and is willing to take the first step in wanting to build a Godly partnership with your spouse, you are qualified.

We share some of the highlights in our journey.

Praying together

It has given us a renewed vision of marriage. We are assured again that God is in our partnership and marriage covenant. This has been head knowledge before the course. But the practical homework and lessons drive home the reality not only in the cognitive but also the spiritual sense. Praying together has been a continual journey and can never be over-emphasized as it needs lots of practice to sense the reality in place.

Joyce

Praying together reinforces the intimacy of our one-flesh and emphasis our togetherness. We pray for our spouse and family too. Further, the Lord promised if two person are in agreement, whatever they shall ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by our Father. (Matt 18:19)

We have also placed some of the necessary regular one-flesh and family commitment time which otherwise would have been haphazard or forgotten. We have also set the live example for the children as to what are our roles as parents as well as a husband and a wife. We as a couple also have the opportunity to pray for couples in our class and together with our leaders. We were privileged to see God's hand working and touching their lives.

One-flesh Ministry

Our relationship has been drawn to work together and has brought a common vision of wanting to see couples blessed and to go and fulfill the vision of being a powerhouse home as a place of peace and to serve the overall good of married couples.

We recognized that we are in our third season of spiritual growth where we are to sow and reap into other people's life in order to grow. Looking forward we have much to learn as rookies. Nevertheless, no venture no gain...so we will move out in due season and in faith!!

In conclusion the end of the course signifies the start of our journey together. MFL has helped much in setting clear OB markers and a Holy Spirit inspired partnership. We believe with grace from Him above and help from one another, we can see many more marriages blessed as we place our trust in Christ.
