We were married in 1997. Our plans did not include having children. We signed up for the Married for Life course for the purpose of building a strong foundation and to strengthen our marriage.
After the lesson on intimacy, we were convicted during our homework time on sexual wounding that we need to renounce our sin of fornication and abortion with our leaders. Even though we had previously renounced these sins quietly on our own and asked God for forgiveness, we felt led to confess to them openly to break the spiritual bondages of guilt and shame. When we did that, we felt something released in the spiritual realm. Little did we know that with such a simple act of obedience and repentance, a word from God was released that several months later totally changed our marriage.

Indeed, the Married for Life class did strengthen and fortify our marriage more than we ever imagined. God led us to smash the chains of our premarital sexual sins and we received total cleansing and forgiveness. Our marriage plans did not include having children; I was at the time indifferent. It did not matter whether we had children or not. I was ready to shoulder the responsibility for children ‘if' they arrived, but also glad not to pursue changes in my lifestyle if there were none.
A few months later, God spoke to my wife and gave her a vision which I interpreted to be the cleansing and filling of her womb. When we related this vision and interpretation to our MFL leaders, they declared over us a breakthrough. Our attitude and initial adverse feelings to having our own children must have stemmed from the past acts of fornication and abortion. Now that is lifted off when we exposed and renounced our sins and received the forgiveness and cleansing,

Soon after that time of confession, during one of a regular church service, during a recruitment video for Sunday school helpers, the Holy Spirit gave me a word. The word was that ‘children are a gift of God'. Then my immediate reply was ‘children are a burden.' My attitude then was that children were nice to have only to play with, like nieces and nephews were ideal to interact with but when we got tired, just pass them back to their parents. The rebuke from God came swiftly but gently. "Would I give you a gift which would burden you?" From that moment, God started to change my heart and prepared me for the journey of motherhood.

Armed with that truth in our hearts, we conceived our first child shortly after and today we now have three God-given children, each of whom we know God has a blessed purpose.
