Leaving a Legacy

Where there's a will...

In order to provide for an increase in spiritual terms of the Lord’s assets many of my clients have left substantial gifts to ministries which they feel are good soil to plant His assets.

Remember the Lord in your Will – In a future article I will deal with the provisions and alternatives that should be in a will and what to think about before you see your attorney to draft it.  For the moment however let’s go back to stewardship principles.  When you are deciding how to leave your estate think about what the Lord would have you do.

Will your estate plan result in an increase in the assets He has entrusted to you?  While your spouse and children will be foremost in your mind think about whether they will be good stewards.  Too much money too soon can destroy a child; they have to learn to be stewards of little before they are ready to be stewards of much.

In order to provide for an increase in spiritual terms of the Lord’s assets many of my clients have left substantial gifts to ministries which they feel are good soil to plant His assets.  Some feel that at a minimum they need to leave 10% to ministries as a tithe from their estate.  Pray about who, where and what you should do as you plan about successor stewards and planning for increase.

This is the second in a series of articles that will deal with various stewardship, estate planning and legal issues such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney and various types of charitable gifts and investments.

Should you feel 2=1 would be good soil in which to plant a bequest in your will the proper wording would be (All gifts and bequests are tax deductible):  I give and bequeath to 2=1 of Lakewood Colorado for its general purposes the sum of $__________.
