Family needs are changing. Families face challenges unheard of in times past. Television, videos, and the Internet have brought the world's influence right into the living room. The innocence of children is under attack as they daily view violence previously seen by few during their lifetime.
Today a child’s fear of losing lunch money to the school bully has been replaced by the terror of classmates carrying guns. Quality family time is a precious commodity. Individual schedules make common free time rare. Eating meals together was once a given, but now must be purposefully planned. Adding to these everyday challenges are the unique ones faced by blended families with alternating custody times and schedules. Is it any wonder that parents today often feel like they are losing the battle?
Surveys confirm that most parents desire to succeed at parenthood, but feel they are not doing it. The pull between the demands of life and their desire to be a healthy family can often overwhelm a couple and leave parents with a constant feeling of guilt and failure.
